Introducing Younique

So today I want to try something I've not done before; a brand focus. I have been using Younique products since January and thought it about time to share the love on the blog.

Younique products are all cruelty-free, naturally based and free from parabens or any harsh chemicals.

There are a selection vegan friendly and gluten free products so something for everyone and the quality is fantastic!

Younique's mission is to uplift, empower, validate and ultimately build self-esteem in women around around the world through high quality products that encourage both inner and outer beauty and spiritual enlightenment while also providing opportunities for personal growth and financial reward.

My top three products without a doubt are the precision pencils, touch cream foundation and fibre lash mascara. Here's why:

Precision Pencils. There are fifteen colours all together; 5 lip liners and 10 eye liners. The pigmentation is amazing, they are unbelievably creamy and so go on like a dream and they are completely smudge proof. Need I say any more? I have 8 in total and rave about them to anyone that will listen. The sharpener (purchased separately) also sharpens them to a round tip rather than a point which is much gentler on the skin.

Touch Mineral Cream Foundation. This foundation is a delight. I use the shade Organza which is the second lightest colour and it's a great match for my skin. The most amazing thing about it though is the coverage - it's fantastic but doesn't look cakey at all. The packaging comes with a sponge separated from the product with a clear plastic lid which I enjoy and there is also a decent sized mirror. Perfect for throwing in your handbag! While it does come with a sponge and Younique do make a foundation brush I find this applies better with a buffing brush from Real Techniques or Bare Minerals.

3D Fibre Lash Mascara. I'll admit I was dubious before I tried this - will it work? will I hate it? Will it be messy?  Clumpy?  Fibres all down my face? Irritate my eyes? The answer to all of these questions (except 'will it work?) was of course, no! The transplanting gel and green tea fibres are so easy to use and actually do look great. I personally think some people can go a bit OTT with it but I find it the perfect replacement for falsies and the ingredients nourish my lashes - fab.

And so that was a brief introduction to Younique!

Polish & Repair

Training as a beauty therapist and working a lot with nails when I got the email asking if I'd like to review some nail polish that doesn't just look good but does good for your nails too I jumped at the chance!

I can do other people's nails but never my own, typical! Also how old and wrinkly do my hands looks? Great.

So Micro Cell products - 'nail recovery with a hint of glamour' -  have recently entered the UK market after being best sellers in Germany and specialise in restoring the health and vitality of your nails.

The first little bottle I received is Nail Repair. This is developed specifically for soft, brittle nails and is supposed to strengthen and prevent splitting or tearing, accelerate growth, activate the rebuilding of protein molecules in nail layers and connect the layers of nails to strengthen the body of the nail. Pheww, a bit technical that last bit, eh? Well as much as that sounds it really does work!
I was a little bit dubious about it all to start with but I have been really pleased the the results, especially the speed at which this works. You're supposed to put one coat on one day and repeat the following day with a second coat and then on the third day remove with Nail Repair Remover (which I don't have) and repeat this process over two to three weeks. It also recommended to use as a base coat once a week so this is what I have been doing for about four weeks now except for with normal acetone-free nail polish remover. My results? Stronger, longer and much healthier nails! Seriously, they have been growing much faster and not breaking. I do a lot of horse riding so my nails often split or break but I've had none of it, especially the last couple of weeks. I'm very pleased.

Finally Colour Repair. I'm so happy to have been sent the shade Raspberry Kiss (a red wine/purple colour) as it's something I would have chosen for my self. It goes on nicely and gives the nail a nice shine but watch out as it chips really easily without a decent top coat. I love the idea that my nail polish is treating my nails rather than weakening them so I think I'll definitely be investing in a few more colours - you can view the whole range on the website here

Overall I highly recommend the brand and with a range of other products from cuticle oil, through nail files to hand cream to choose from I can see the brand taking off very soon.

Thoughts: Australian Body Care

Australian Bodycare is a new brand to me and I was lucky enough to be sent a couple of samples to try from the lovely people at Catalyst PR. The products I have been using are Anytime Balm and Hand Cream, both of which are lovely.

I mentioned Australian Bodycare to be a new brand to me because it's actually been around since 1992 in salons and spas before becoming more recently available for purchase. So the products are all really simple and straightforward and are suitable for all ages. Due to being all Tea Tree Oil based (the highest grade of course) the range is particularly good for clearing blemishes or odour causing bacteria in adolescents such as myself.

I want to first tell you about Anytime Balm. Described as 'a rich creamy emollient balm for all skin types but especially good for blemished and dry flaking skin' I would say this is a sort of solidified oil for use at any time (the clue is in the name) and on any part of the body.To use you simply melt by rubbing between your fingers and then apply to whichever area you wish.
I've tested it out on the dryness on my legs and face and also as a lip balm and gained results I'm rather pleased with; my lips are in great condition and the dry patches gradually disappeared!
Tea Tree is known for it's soothing and antiseptic benefits which were really called into action a couple of weeks ago. I tried using some hair removal cream on my underarm (never again!!) only to be immediately burnt and left with bright red patches that stung whenever I moved - Anytime Balm became my saviour! I applied it twice daily to the area and within three or four days it cleared up.

I've been on the market for a new hand cream for a while now so I was really looking forward to trialling this one. Containing Tea Tree Oil to protect, Shea butter to moisturise and smooth and Argon oil to condition and nourish this really sounded like what I needed, and to an extent it is. Don't get me wrong, the cream is lovely to apply, doesn't leave your hands all greasy and really does good things for your hands it's just the extra strong smell! As much as I love scents I'm really not a fan of the overpowering types which unfortunately this is. I do however also enjoy the consistency and pale pink colour (bonus) so we'll have to see how things go with this one. I'd highly recommend to people who have a problem with nail or skin biting though as I'm sure you'd be put of by the taste of Tea Tree.

Overall while the strong fragrance has driven me away from the hand cream I'm sure I'll be purchasing some more skincare products in the near future to really treat my nasty spots I seem to have become oh so prone to!

Lifestyle | Feeding The Ducks

Spring has officially sprung in the UK now that the wind and rain has been replaced by the blazing sunshine. I took the opportunity the other day to take my younger cousin for a little walk in the lovely weather and to feed the ducks.

The lake, or rather large pond, was so still and the daffodils looked beautiful. Now I'm super excited for the summer!

Liebster Award

I'm about two months late with this one but hey, what's new there then? The beautiful Sarah from Fawn Chic nominated me for a liebster award - thank you, lovely! - so without further a dew here is my response...

Any plans for valentines day?
Well it's a bit late for me to be answering this question but as a single pringle no, I did not spend my valentines day all loved up but I did spend my evening babysitting so another couple could enjoy their night!

Where do you see yourself in five years?
If you would have asked me this question four years ago I would have told you that I would be on my way to becoming a midwife, if you would have asked me two years ago I would have told you I would be working as an administrative officer and if you had of asked me just months ago I would have told you that I would be a freelance make up artist. Now? Now I have no idea where I'll be in five years time and it's so scary!

Has blogging changed your life in any way?
Yes and no. I'm not one of those people who has become really successful and made lots of amazing friends - shout out to Laura though, she's great and I feel as though I can call her a friend (even though she probably just sees me as some sort of stalker, hah!) - but I have become happier and more confident in a way. Blogging has allowed me discover this whole other world - the bloggersphere - that sometimes I am totally divulged in and other times I'm completely AWOL from. I wouldn't change a thing.

Favourite movie to watch to help cheer you up?
This is a bad question for me because I'm that person that just cannot watch a film twice! Once is enough, thank you very much. I do however enjoy romantic comedies or just comedies if I need some cheering up - so basically whatever is highest rated on the trusted netflix, that or I binge watch series such as Friends, Rizzoli & Isles, Switched At Birth or Bones.

One make up product that you couldn't live without?
As a Younique presenter I feel like I should say 3D fibre lash mascara (which is totally amazing) but truthfully it would more likely be my precious Sleek contour kit! I love that little palette of joy so much and it's so cheap. There have been times when I've slapped on some contour and nothing else, yep that's how I roll.

Who is the person that inspires you to be a better person?
Amber Voight - look her up. Also, as cheesy at you may find it, Louise from Sprinkle of Glitter. I have followed her for years and she is my favourite person.

Do you enjoy sweet or sultry foods more?
I've never heard of 'sultry' foods but I assume it's just another word for savoury? If so then savoury all the way. It may be because my body has suffered too much junk food over the years but these days I'm just always craving the good stuff - by which I mean healthy stuff.

Do you have a goal for 2015?
I had lots of goals but stuck to none of them so I guess just to be happy.

One piece of clothing that you can't wait to wear for spring?
My wardrobe currently consists of about 5 tops and two pairs of jeans so nothing I'm two excited for to be honest. Maybe - no, definitely- a shopping spree is in order very soon.

Favourite song at the moment?
I don't ever tend to have favourites. At the moment I am loving Only Love Can Hurt Like This and Hold Back The River as well as Kelly Clarkson and Sam Smith.

If you could choose one place to work (realistic or not) where would it be?
I'd be self employed!

I've not done this post the typical way because I've had a few nominations, all of which I am so, SO grateful for but I'm running out of facts about myself and questions to ask so if you're reading this and want to give it a shot then write a post and give me 11 facts about yourself and 11 of your favourite things and leave the link in the comments or tweet me so that I can see.

dermalogica

As you'll probably already know, I study beauty therapy at college and as I mentioned in both this and this post the skincare brand we use for facials is dermalogica. So to really get to know the products I'm using on my client's skin I've been using them on my own skin at home too.

On our brand training day we were each given a £10 off discount code so that we could purchase a skin kit and be using dermalogica at home, even for a short time, to see results on our own skin first. As I have combination skin I was recommended the normal/oily skin kit containing:
Special Cleansing Gel,
MultiActive Toner,
Active Moist,
Skin Prep Scrub,
Total Eye Care

I used the products morning and night for a month (4 weeks) until the majority of the products were used up and I had to repurchase to fully test out the range. In total, I used special cleansing gel, multiactive toner and active moist for about 6 weeks before reverting back to good ol' No 7. It's not that these dermalogica products aren't good, it's that this specific combination wasn't working for me. Though I would just like to point out that it's been a good four months since I bought this and my original tiny tube of eye cream is still going strong - just shows how a little bit goes a long way.

Every one should be using the three core products in their skincare regime; cleanser, toner and moisturiser. So those are the three products I want to briefly tell you about first.

Special Cleansing Gel. This is a lightweight, soap free, fragrance free, foaming gel for all skin types. It contains balm mint to cool and calm and lavender, a natural purifying antiseptic. This cleanser isn't over drying and leaves the skin super clean. I can't deny that it gives good results, in fact if my skin is breaking out or feeling clogged up I still reach for my little bottle of special cleansing gel! I just don't like the feel of the foam on my face or the tightness I feel after rinsing. If you're like me and also experience sensitivity I recommend UltraCalming cleanser also from dermalogica. It's a really lovely product and a fab makeup remover too.

MultiActive Toner. Again, suitable for all skin types, this is a hydrating, refreshing ultra-light spritz to help condition the skin. It's ideal for travelling - after a long flight or to wake you up in the middle of a long drive - and also great for using over makeup during the day. I'm pretty indifferent to this product but I will say that I hate the smell!

Active Moist. A lightweight, oil free lotion that combats surface dehydration for daily moisturising. While I love the consistency of this moisturiser when I use it I just don't feel like it's doing anything. It contains lemon fruit, cucumber, lavender and watercress which are great for soothing, hydrating and refining the skin but it's just not suited to me at all. My skin just felt like it always needed more nourishment. I'd recommend for really oil skin or males - in fact it is mostly guys that purchase this from the salon.

You should also exfoliate your skin twice weekly minimum and so this is where Skin Prep Scrub falls in to the mix. This is a sandy colour and is really thick and grainy. It also has a smell much like marmite, either you love it or you hate it! It claims to leave your skin with a healthy, smooth complexion which I'm happy enough to agree with.

I've never used an eye cream before despite knowing the importance of caring for the delicate skin around the eyes. I've lusted after various products from Origins, Liz Eearle and No 7 but never taken the plunge. Total Eye Care has been fantastic. It has an SPF of 15 which is ideal for me and it is both concealing and moisturising. The girls at college actually noticed a difference and commented on it before I did!  I'd highly recommend this to teens and younger women as a good defence before the real ageing kicks in.

So those are my thoughts on the normal/oily skin kit. I've grown to know and love dermalogica as a brand and in my opinion, the best product that you should all try is the MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque. It's a fantastic hydrating pick me up weekly masque, great for pamper nights. Even Victoria Beckham uses it!

I've not done a review in a couple of months and I feel so rusty, I'm struggling to regain a flow to my posts... Please forgive me. What do you think about dermalogica? Tell me about your skin care below.
